Dog Tech UK

GPS trackers and cameras for UK dog owners, compared on what they cost once the subscription is added, rather than the device price alone. On 21 October 2026, the GPS trackers we compared came to £149 to £167.95 over two years where makers publish UK plan prices, and the cameras to £169.75 to £269.71 with recordings. Start with the guides below, or read the buying questions further down. We compare published specifications and prices; we do not use these products ourselves.

Dog tech buying questions

The questions UK owners search for most about trackers and cameras, answered from our two comparisons and Dogs Trust advice.

Is there a GPS tracker for dogs without a subscription?

Yes, but only one of the five GPS dog trackers in our comparison. PitPat says no subscription is needed to find your dog, with an optional paid membership; its tracker cost £149 on 21 October 2026. Tractive, FitBark, Pawfit and Weenect all need a plan, because the tracker uses a mobile network to send its location. An Apple AirTag is not a GPS tracker: it has no GPS or mobile connection and is found only when it is near someone else's Apple device. See the GPS dog tracker comparison for every plan price.

How much does a dog GPS tracker cost?

GPS dog tracker devices cost from £39.99 (Weenect XS) to £149 (PitPat) on the makers' UK stores on 21 October 2026, but the subscription usually costs more than the device. Over two years, the Tractive DOG 6 comes to £167 (£59 plus a two-year Basic plan at £108) and the FitBark GPS to £167.95 at full price. Pawfit and Weenect did not publish UK plan prices on their stores, so their two-year cost could not be worked out. Budget for the plan before you choose a device.

Do dog GPS trackers work without mobile signal?

No. Every tracker we compared reports its position over a mobile network, so it needs signal where your dog is. If your walks have poor coverage, a tracker may only update when your dog comes back into range. FitBark shows Vodafone, EE and O2; Tractive says it uses partners in more than 175 countries but does not name UK networks. Battery figures fall sharply in live tracking, which is when you need it most: FitBark quotes six hours of live tracking against ten days of normal use. A tracker is no substitute for a microchip and a collar tag, which the law requires; our first-time dog owner guide sets out those duties.

How much are dog cameras?

The dog cameras in our comparison cost from £17 with a Furbo Nanny plan (Furbo Mini) to £149.95 (Petcube Bites 2 Lite) on 21 October 2026. Recordings and alerts need a paid plan, so over two years the cheapest plan that unlocks video history brings the total to £169.75 to £269.71. Petcube's free Basic plan gives live viewing only, which keeps a Petcube Cam at £49.99 if you never need recordings. The dog camera comparison shows the working for each camera.

Do dog cameras help with separation anxiety?

A camera can show you what your dog does when you are out, but it does not treat anxiety on its own. Dogs Trust suggests filming your dog when it is alone to look for signs of anxiety, and says a camera can help you check your dog stays relaxed during separation training, ideally with a behaviour expert. Dogs Trust also says dogs should not be left alone for more than four hours (Dogs Trust: time alone, checked 21 October 2026).

If you are out longer, plan for help: our dog walker cost guide and kennels cost guideshow what that costs. If you are worried about your dog's behaviour, contact your vet.

How we research this topic

We compare dog tech on published specifications, UK coverage and running costs over two years rather than marketing copy, and quote the makers' battery figures as their claims.

We only publish a guide once it has sourced UK pricing behind it. For kit beyond tech, see dog accessories.
